All Cy-Fair Helping Hands volunteers should have the following skillset:

At this time we do not have volunteer opportunities for court-ordered community service.
Food Pantry Team Member
Volunteers are needed to assist with preparing food bags, set-up and take-down of marketplace tables, assisting clients with food selection, traffic control, receiving and recording donations, and pantry-related projects. Food pantry team members should be able to stand for an extended period of time, be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment and safely lift 25 – 30 lbs. We are looking for individuals who can commit to a regular schedule. We especially need bilingual Spanish and Vietnamese volunteers.
Days and shift times available are every Monday and/or Thursday. The 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month are also available. Shift hours are 9:00 am – 1:00 pm. Volunteers in our food pantry must be at least 16 years of age. If you’d like to stop by and try it out, join us Thursday, August 8th!
Administrative Assistant
Use your admin/office talents to help the homeless and hungry in your community. We are seeking two individuals to assist with administrative needs. Administrative tasks and duties will vary widely and typically involve confidential and/or time-sensitive information. Good organizational, people, spreadsheet and communication skills (verbal and written) are required.
Commit to 3 to 6 hours per week. Two positions are available.
Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Coordinator
Enjoy being the resident system guru? Have a heart for the homeless? We need one or two individuals who can volunteer on a Tuesday and/or Wednesday morning between the hours of 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on a weekly basis to enter data and become proficient on the nationally recognized HMIS system designed to capture the characteristics and service needs of our clients experiencing homelessness. Volunteers will receive online, virtual classes to learn the software. This position reports to our Director of Homeless Services.
Commit to a Tuesday and/or Wednesday, 2 – 3 hours per week. Long-term considerations only.
Red Barrel Donation Driver
Ever wonder where those Red Barrel donations go – they go to your local food pantry! Volunteers are needed to pick up Red Barrel food donations from two nearby grocery stores in the Cypress area and deliver donations to our Community Food Pantry at 9204 Emmott Road on a Monday or Thursday morning between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. Volunteers must be over 18, have a large vehicle (e.g., pick-up truck, van or SUV) and car insurance. This is a relatively flexible position that doesn’t require a lot of time commitment yet contributes significantly to our mission to bring hope to the hungry!
Day Center Shuttle Driver
If you have a few hours to spare on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings, come join the Cy-Fair Helping Hands team as a shuttle driver. Your provision of transportation will help our homeless neighbors enjoy a meal, a shower, and some much needed fellowship. Current need is for Tuesdays between 9:30am – 1:30pm. Drivers are encouraged to join the activities at the day center which includes daily devotionals and lunch at 11:00. Reports to the Director of Homeless Outreach.
Day Center Caseworker
Assist clients by assessing their needs and determining eligibility for services provided by Cy-Fair Helping Hands and other agencies. Aid in developing a plan to access available resources. Direct clients in acquiring documents and applying for external benefit services.
Commit 6 to 8 hours per week.
Food Pantry Registration Assistant (Bi-lingual)
Volunteers are needed to register new and returning clients, validate eligibility, inform clients of upcoming events and run reports. As a member of the broader Food Pantry Team, Registration Assistants may be asked to help from time-to-time in other areas of the food pantry. Volunteers must be fluent in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) and will be working with confidential information.
Commit to a Monday and/or Thursday morning 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on a long-term basis.
Home Delivery Driver – From Pantry to Individuals
Drivers are needed to deliver food pantry items on a bi-weekly schedule to the homes of individuals who have no transportation or who physically cannot come to our pantry. Deliveries will be within a 7 – 12 mile radius from our location. This is a great opportunity for someone who may not have a lot of time to volunteer (you could do this over a lunch break), and/or enjoys building relationships and taking care of others.
When: Monday or Thursday every other week from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Requirements: Volunteers must be able to commit to delivering on a regular schedule. Must be over 18. Must have own car and car insurance. Must be able to lift 20 lb boxes and in some cases, carry these boxes up steps.
Food Pantry Donation Driver – From Retail to Pantry
Volunteers are needed to pick up food donations from neighboring grocery stores and deliver the food to our community food pantry. Pick-up location(s) are within a 7 – 12 mile radius from our location. Must be able to lift heavy boxes of meat and produce. May be required to help weigh, sort and store food. Volunteers must be over 18, have a large vehicle (i.e, pick-up truck, van or SUV) and car insurance. If you have been looking for opportunities to volunteer in your community and prefer to get an early morning start, this is a great way to contribute!
Commit to 1 to 2 hours on a Monday and/or Thursday morning for food pickup to be delivered to our location between 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
